The Jubilee

A solitaire domino game, played by a single player, with a Double-Six domino set.

Play:

Fig. 1

The dominoes are shuffled, facedown, then, keeping the tiles facedown, the player draws 7 tiles and places them in a row with the horizontal sides touching. This procedure is then repeated, with the player drawing 6 more tiles, and placing them on top of the tiles already in the layout but leaving the far left tile without another on top of it. This is repeated again, with 5 more tiles, then 4, then 3, then 2 and then 1 more tile, until there are 7 stacks of tiles that incrementally have one more tile than the previous stack (as shown in Fig. 1).

Fig. 2

The player then turns each tile on the top of the stacks, face-up. They may now move tiles only on the top of a stack to the top of any other stack in the formation illustrated in Fig. 2. The player may have any number of tiles in a stack but may never have more than 7 stacks at a time. Whenever a tile at the top of a stack is facedown (after a tile above has been moved) the player should turn it face-up. Whenever a stack is depleted so it leaves an empty space, it may be filled with another tile but it must be a double from the top of another stack. The player is not allowed to look at any tiles that haven't been turned face-up during the course of play. Once the tiles are all in the sequence illustrated, the game is won.
